TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Wellesley College cross country junior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) placed 82nd out of 290 individuals with a time of 22:15.1 at the 6k NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday. The race took place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course and was hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Whinney was 59th at the 1k mark and sat in 84th by the 5k point. The junior moved up a pair of spots in the final 1k of the race. Whinney's time was nearly 40 seconds faster than her previous time at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship.
The NEWMAC's own MIT won the team competition with 128 points. University of Chicago took second with a score of 138 and Williams College captured third with 155. Wilmington College sophomore Faith Duncan (Lebanon, Ohio) topped the individual field, clocking in at 20:16.5.
Saturday's race concludes the 2024 season for the cross country. The track & field season opens on December 7th at Smith College's Mary Grinaker Indoor Invitational.
