PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wellesley College fencing went 7-4 over the two day Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Meets No. 1 and 2 this weekend at Brown University. The team recorded key wins over Brandeis University and Tufts University on Sunday, ranked No. 3 and 5 in NCAA Division III.
Foil squad went 9-2 over the weekend. Sophomore Lauren Khoo (San Francisco, Calif.) had a strong showing, going 19-3 with a trio of Division I wins against Brown University and Boston College. Junior Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) and sophomore Phoebe Li (Palo Alto, Calif.) added 11 and 10 wins respectively.
Epee squad won five matches, led by a 16-win weekend from sophomore Alisha Li (Warren, N.J.). First year Sissi Zou (Shanghai, China) provided 10 victories and junior Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) was victorious on nine occasions.Â
Sabre corralled four squad victories. First year Judy Bang (Seoul, South Korea) and Emily Zhao (Yorktown, Va.) set the tone with 10 wins each.Â
Wellesley 16, Wayne State 11
Senior Leena Hobson (Oakland, Calif.), Khoo and first year Daisy Wiseman (Austin, Texas) all pointed in foil while the squad added three more via default. Senior Makana Burch (Portland, Ore.) and Zhao went 2-0 in sabre while sophomore Rebecca Hsieh (Annadale, Va.) won a bout. First year Julia Peeler (Fairfax, Va.) and A. Li had a victory apiece in epee.
Wellesley 18, Wagner 9
Foil and epee both picked up squad victories. Khoo, Xu and Zou won three matches, Hobson, Huang and Burch all tallied twice and Bang, A. Li and Zhao won one bout.
Dension 17, Wellesley 10
Huang and Khoo both went 2-1 to give foil a 5-4 squad win. A. Li notched a pair of epee victories while Bang, Burch and Zhao all won a match in sabre.
Wellesley 25, Wheaton 2
 Epee and sabre shutout the Lyons with P. Li, senior Elena Vona (Millstone, N.J.), Zou and Peeler all winning a match.
Wellesley 19 , Sacred Heart 8
Huang, A. Li, P. Li and Zhao were all perfect against SHU. Zou won two matches and Wiseman added a victory.
Wellesley 16, Tufts 11
Epee beat the Jumbos 7-2. Xu swept all three matches while A. Li and Zou went 2-1. Foil won six points, with Khoo, P. Li and Huang doing the damage. Bang finished with three sabre victories.
Wellesley 17, Vassar 10
Foil took an 8-1 squad victory. Hobson shutout the Brewers and Huang, Khoo and Wiseman combined for five additional tallies. Backed by two wins from Bang and one from Burch, Hsieh and Zhao, sabre picked up a 5-4 squad win. Peeler won a pair of matches in epee.
Brown 20, Wellesley 7
Khoo and A. Li won a pair of bouts over Division I Brown, while Huang, Zhao and Bang all claimed one victory.
Boston College 24, Wellesley 3
Peeler and Vona both collected a win for epee against Division I Boston College and Khoo won the lone point for foil.
MIT 16, Wellesley 11
Foil squad won 6-3 over MIT. Khoo swept all three matches while P. Li and Huang combined for three more points. Xu took two wins for epee and A. Li and Zou both snagged one victory. Zhao had the lone point for sabre.
Wellesley 16, Brandeis 11
A. Li finished 3-0 in epee while Peeler, Vona and Zou teamed up for four more scores. Khoo and P. Li captured five points for a foil squad win over Brandeis. Bang finished 2-1 in sabre and Burch and Zhao both tacked on a win.
