Wellesley Swimming & Diving Splits with Merrimack and Simmons

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving split a tri-meet with Merrick College and Simmons University on Friday at the Andover YMCA. The Blue defeated Simmons 165-87 while falling to host Merrimack 146-124.

The Blue opened the meet by capturing first in the 200 Medley Relay. First year Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.), junior Lara Dashti (Kuwait City, Kuwait), senior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) and first year Grace Hu (Andover, Mass.) put together a time of 1:52.97 to win.

Dashti won the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, pacing the pack with final times of 1:07.71 and 2:28.73. Dashti later scored gold in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.90.

Cai won the 100 Free event with a time of 55.09. The senior added a 100 Fly win to the resumé with a top time of 1:00.09 In the 200 Free, Cai swam a time of 1:58.26 to take second.

First year Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) and junior Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) finished 1-2 in 1-Meter Diving with respective scores of 224.10 and 211.12.

Junior Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) went 2-3 in the 1000 Free. Richardson had a time of 11:30.19 for second while Weingarten was just behind with a time of 11:41.26. The duo repeated the 2-3 finish in the 500 Free with times of 5:41.38 and 5:42.95.

Fender earned silver in the 100 Back with a time of 1:01.31, only .01 off of the winning time. Fender later added another second place finish in the 200 Back (2:12.28). Hu added a second place showing with a 2:20.71 performance in the 200 Fly.

Next up, the Blue will host Coast Guard Academy and Connecticut College at Chandler Pool on Saturday, November 16 at 12:00 PM.
