Blue Track & Field in Sixth After One Day of NEWMAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field sits in sixth place out of 10 teams after the first day of the NEWMAC Championships, hosted by Springfield at Blake Track.

MIT leads the field with 82 points. Coast Guard is in second place with 33 points and WPI holds third with 23 points. Wheaton (18), Springfield (15), Wellesley (13), Babson (6) and Mount Holyoke (5) round out the scoring.

In the Javelin Throw, junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) threw for a distance of 35.27 to claim fourth out of 26 competitors and earned five points for the Blue.

Sophomore Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) picked up four points by running a time of 38:58.85 in the 10000m race, good for a fifth place finish. 

Junior Erin Dickinson added a fifth place performance in the Long Jump event with a distance of 5.01m.

Junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) was Wellesley's top performer in the 100m prelims. Ogah came in tenth place with a time of 12.94.

Sophomore Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) placed 13th with a distance of 34.03m in the Hammer Throw.

Day two of competition takes place tomorrow, starting at 11:00 AM.
