BRUNSWICK, Maine – Wellesley College golf finished second out of 11 teams at the Polar Bear Shootout, hosted by Bowdoin College at the Par 73 Brunswick G.C. The Blue finished the weekend 17 strokes above par with a team score of 601 (300-301).
Williams won the competition with a winning performance of 582 (289-293) strokes. After the Blue, Babson (606), Bowdoin (611) and Middlebury (621) rounded out the top five. Amherst (624), Wesleyan (634), Bates (640), Trinity (666), Suffolk (681), Hartford (802), Southern Maine (827) and Husson (838) all competed. Williams sophomore Maryanne Grace (Rye, N.Y.) won the individual competition by carding a 141 (71-70).
Sophomore Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) finished three over (76) on Sunday to earn T-fifth out of 79 competitors with a final score of 148 (72-76). Classmate Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) was even on Sunday (73) to tie for ninth place with a score of 150 (77-73).
First year Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) also carded a 150 (75-75) to take a T-9th in her first collegiate event. Sophomores Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) (153 - 76-77) and Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) (159 - 79-80).
Classmate Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) played as an individual and went 81-82 (163) across 36 holes.
Wellesley returns next weekend at the George Phinney Classic hosted by Middlebury College on September 21-22.
