Wellesley Cross Country Takes Sixth at Cardinal Invite

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wellesley College cross country finished sixth out of 10 teams at the 6k Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday.

Amherst won the team competition with a score of 46, followed by Vassar (68), Tufts (69), Wesleyan (77), Smith (168), the Blue (170), Suffolk (180), Union (202), Endicott (262) and New Haven (278).

Junior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) was Wellesley's top finisher, placing 13th out of 128 with a time of 22:19.15. Classmate Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) also broke the 23-minute mark and took 18th with a time of 22:24.46. 

Junior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) earned 39th with a time of 23:09.04, Elise Lanahan (Greensville, S.C.) finished 64th with a time of 23:54.63 and first year Helen Yang (Los Angeles, Calif.) claimed 84th with a time of 24:30.59.

Senior Alicia Naranjo-Champion (El Monte, Calif.) (87th - 24:35.70), first years Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) (102th - 25:43.98) and Adelaide Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (105th - 25:52.11) and sophomore Maggie Yan (Montvale, N.J.) (112th - 26:28.74) also competed for Wellesley.

The Blue will compete at the Keene State Invitational on Saturday, October 5.
