MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Wellesley College golf made up a nine stroke deficit to capture first place at the George Phinney Classic at the Par 71 Ralph Myhre G.C on Sunday. The Blue (313-301) and the Ephs (304-310) both finished with a score of 614. Wellesley won the tiebreaker, which was the lower score for the fifth team member of Sunday.
New York U. captured third (624) while Middlebury A (630) and Amherst (630) tied for fourth. Williams sophomore Natalie Cheong (Las Vegas, Nev.) topped all individuals by carding a 146 (73-73).
Wellesley sophomore Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) shot three over on Sunday to finish the weekend with a score of 149 (75-74). Wang earned third place as an individual out of 63 student-athletes. Classmate Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) claimed fourth overall with a score of 151 (76-75) for the weekend.
Also helping the Blue to win was sophomore Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) (155 - 81-74), first year Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) (159 - 81-78) and sophomore Grace Sun (164 - 84-80).
Sophomore Kaurvaki Bajpai (Chantilly, Va.) finished 27th overall as an individual with a score of 161 (82-79).
Wellesley will compete at the Williams Invitational on September 23-24 at the Taconic G.C.
