Wellesley Swimming & Diving Takes Second in Annual Sisters Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — Wellesley College swimming & diving took second place out of five teams at the Sisters Invitational, hosted at Mount Holyoke College's Natatorium, this weekend.

Smith College won the team competition with 1146 points. The Blue claimed second with 985.5 points, followed by host Mount Holyoke College (888), Simmons University (435.5) and Western New England University (291).

Junior Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) and junior Lara Dashti (Kuwait City, Kuwait) went 1-2-3 in the 50 Breaststroke. Sekhon topped the field with a time of 30.39, followed by Mitsuoka (31.86) and Dashti (31.93).

Sekhon turned around and won the 100 Breaststroke, coming in at 1:08.13. Dashti was just behind in second place with a 1:09.45 time. Senior Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) notched fourth with a time of 1:11.00

Sekhon won again on Sunday, this time in the 200 Breastroke, leading the pack with a time of 2:27.22. Dashti (2:29.36) and Hart (2:35.34) rounded out the top three in the event. 

Junior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) won the 50 Back, clocking in at 28.34. First year Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) captured silver with a time of 28.67. Fender went on to take second in the 100 Back with a 1:01.63 performance.

Fender had a season-best time of 2:11.02 to collect second in the 200 Back on Sunday. 

Senior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) won the 200 IM finishing at 2:13.78. The senior also won the 400 IM with a top time of 4:44.91. First year Grace Hu (Andover, Mass.) was third in the 200 IM event with a time of 2:17.58.

Cai added a third event win to the total on Sunday, swimming a 2:11.75 to take first in the 200 Fly. Hu was the runner-up with a time of 2:16.47.

Junior Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) claimed 2-3 in the 500 Free. Richardson got second with a 5:34.16. Weingarten was less than .2 seconds behind with a time of 5:34.27.

Mitsuoka tied for second with a time of 25.67 in the 50 Free.

First year diver Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) was second in 3-Meter Diving, scoring a 308.35. Burstein doubled up on second place finishes in 1-Meter Diving, putting up 329.00 points.

The 200 Free Relay team of Liu, Sekhon, Cai and Mitsuoka beat out all opponents with a top time of 1:42.87. The quartet teamed up again to place first in the 400 Medley Relay with a 4:05.67 performance and the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:51.54.

Next up, the Blue travel to Smith College to face the Pioneers and Springfield College in a tri-meet at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 25.
