Cross Country Claims 18th at Crowded Connecticut College Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Wellesley College cross country finished out of 33 teams in the Blue Championship race at the 6k Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday. The crowded field included 16 ranked Division III institutions.

Senior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) led the Blue, finishing 55th out of 261 runners with a time of 22:05.88. Classmate Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) also had a top-100 finish, placing 69th, breaking a personal record by less than a second with a 22:21.54.

First-year Cadence Chang (Boston, Mass.) broke the 23 minute mark for the second time this season, crossing at 22:59.61 for 131st. Senior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) took 145th, clocking in at 23:13.39.

Rounding out the Blue race competitors was senior Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) (150th - 23:16.36), first-year Zoë Cort (San Francisco, Calif.) (192nd - 23:43.12) and senior Elise Lanahan (Greenville, S.C.) (206th - 23:53.14).

Wellesley always had several runners in the White Open race division. 

First-year Avery Lieb (Ojai, Calif.) came in 93rd out of 345 competitors, hitting the finish line at 24:12.5. Sophomore Helen Yang (Woodland Hills, Calif.) scored 148th at 25:00.9.

Also racing were sophomores Addie Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (174th - 25:17.4), Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) (191st - 25:28.6), Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) (196th - 25:34.3), first-year Sophia Trabuco (Rochester, Minn.) (212th - 25:54.8), senior Caelan Schretzmayer (225th - 26:08.0) and juniors Maggie Yan (Montvale, N.J.) (246th - 26:41.5) and Perry Huang Kemper (265th - 26:59.6).

Next up, Wellesley will race at the annual NEWMAC Championships on Saturday, November 1 at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass.
