KEENE, N.H. – Wellesley College cross country took fourth amongst 26 teams at the 6k Keene State Invitational on Saturday. The Blue finished with a team score of 133.
No. 2 Williams College won the team event with a winning total of 18. No. 17 Tufts University followed with 60 and Colby College claimed bronze with 122 points. The Blue defeated fellow NEWMAC schools Springfield College (8th - 273), Salve Regina University (11th - 258), Mount Holyoke College (12th - 383) and Wheaton College (24th - 666).
Senior Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) led the team, earning 19th in a crowded field of 288 runners. Brydges compiled a time of 22:26.7, less than two seconds from a personal-best.
Senior Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) and first-year Lucy Kontos (Lexington, Mass.) finished 33-34. Beauchamp claimed at 22:50.3 while Kontos was only a spot behind, crossing the finish line at 22:52.4.
Senior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) completed the race in 23:16.3, good for 48th overall. First-year Cadence Chang (Boston, Mass.) was the final scorer for the Blue, taking 53rd at 23:21.70.
Coming in 58th place was senior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.), with a time of 23:31.2.Â
First-years Zoë Cort (San Francisco, Calif.) and Avery Lieb (Ojai, Calif.) both put up top 100 performances. Cort ran a 24:16.6, good for 82nd. Lieb hit the final line at 24:33.9 to snag 92nd.
Also competing for the Blue was senior Elise Lanahan (Greenville, S.C.) (108th - 24:57.3), junior Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) (127th - 25:21.5), sophomore Helen Yang (Woodland Hills, Calif.) (134th - 25:28.7), sophomore Addie Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (147th - 25:43.5), first-year Sophia Trabuco (Rochester, Minn.) (177th - 26:35.5), sophomore Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) (190th - 26:53.6), sophomore Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) (191st) - 26:54.1), junior Maggie Yan (Montvale, N.J.) (197th - 27:01.9) and senior Caelan Schretzmayer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) (215th - 27:34.4).
Next up, Wellesley makes the trip to New London, Conn. to race in the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, October 18.
