Cross Country Captures Third at NEWMAC Championships; Brydges Makes All-Conference

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Wellesley College cross country finished third out of 12 teams at 6k 2025 NEWMAC Championships at Highland Park on Saturday. The bronze showing marked the Blue's best finish since 2021. Additionally, senior Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) placed eighth out of 143 total finishers and received NEWMAC All-Conference honors.

MIT held five of the top seven spots in the race and won the team event with a score of 24. Coast Guard Academy claimed second with 66 points, followed by the Blue (112). Rounding out the competition was Smith College (141), Springfield College (165), Wheaton College (197), Babson College (199), WPI (210), Salve Regina University (213), Mount Holyoke College (292), Emerson College (293) and Clark University (307).

Brydges' top-ten finish clocked in at 22:32.7. Classmate Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) narrowly missed All-Conference honors, taking 23rd with a 23:34.5 performance.

Senior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) cracked the top 25, hitting the finish line at 23:49.0 to earn 25th place. First-year Avery Lieb (Ojai, Calif.) came up big, taking 38th overall with a 24:23.1 showing. Senior Elise Lanahan (Greenville, S.C.) closed out the scoring in 41st overall, coming in at 24:33.0.

Also competing for the Blue were sophomores Helen Yang (Woodland Hills, Calif.) (43rd - 24:39.7), Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) (64th - 25:23.6), Addie Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (70th - 25:38.2), first-year Sophia Trabuco (Rochester, Minn.) (81st - 26:10.2), sophomore Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) (82nd - 26:12.3), junior Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) (91st - 26:43.7), senior Caelan Schretzmayer (Port Jefferson, N.J.) (102nd - 27:17.7) and junior Maggie Yan (Montvale, N.J.) (113th - 27:49.9).

The Blue are back in action at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. on Saturday, November 15 for the NCAA East Regional Championship.
