HOPKINTON, N.H. – Wellesley College cross country had a good showing at the NCAA East Regional Championship on Saturday, taking seventh out of 30 teams at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.
Tufts University won the team competition with a total of 51. MIT came in second at 61, while Brandeis University earned bronze at 116.
Seniors Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) and Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) paced the Blue and are both in line to receive USTFCCCA All-Region honors on Monday for their efforts.
Whinney came in at 21:48.5 to finish 10th overall amongst a crowded field of 214 individuals. Brydges destroyed her previous time by over 20 seconds, clocking in at 22:00.0 for 14th place.
Classmate Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished in the top 20 percent of all individuals, taking 40th place with a PR time of 22:50.4. Senior Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) claimed the 50th spot, hitting the finish line at 23:10.2, a new best for the senior.
First-year Zoë Cort (San Francisco, Calif.) was the final scorer with a 23:42.9 showing, earning 64th overall.
Wellesley was rounded out by senior Elise Lanahan (Greenville, S.C.) (70th - 23:49.7) and first-year Avery Lieb (Ojai, Calif.) (73rd - 23:55.4).
The Blue will now await tomorrow's NCAA DIII release to see if any individuals have qualified for next weekend's Championships in Spartanburg, S.C.
