CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Wellesley College fencing picked up a notable 14-13 win over Division I Boston College in a 2-2 day at the Syd Fadner Invitational on Saturday.
Temple 17, Wellesley 10
Epee squad defeated its Division I opponent 5-4. Senior Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) and first-year Elaine Lin (Flushing, N.Y.) both won two bouts while sophomore Renee Sun (The Woodlands, Texas) tacked on the fifth point. Sabre grabbed four points with first-year Rai Henry (Takoma Park, Md.) going 3-0. Classmate Alice Wang (Newport Beach, Calif.) added one victory. First-year Emma Fung (Saratoga, Calif.) had the lone win in foil.
Wellesley 14, Boston College 13
Foil took six points in a key win over its Division I foe. Junior Lauren Khoo (San Francisco, Calif.) swept the foil matches while Fung and first-year Viola Qian (Jiangsu, China) put up an additional three points. Henry and first-year Lauren Lee (San Diego, Calif.) each won two of three bouts in sabre. First-year Joy Xu (Shanghai, China) won the decisive fifth point. In epee, Lin scored two points and Sun tallied the third mark.
Wellesley 24, Wheaton 3
Lin and seniors Michelle Pan (Arlington, Mass.) and Lily Millard (Selkirk, N.Y.) all took a win in epee for the Blue.
Temple 18, Wellesley 9
Epee squad once again defeated the Owls 5-4. Sun and Pan each earned two victories and Lin was the fifth bout. In sabre, Lee, J. Xu, Wang and junior Rebecca Hsieh (Annadale, Va.) all earned a point.
The Blue will compete again on Sunday, December 7 at the Brandeis Invitational.
