Fencing Takes Five Wins at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Wellesley College fencing went 5-2 as a team at the Vassar Invitational on Sunday. The Blue now sit at 13-3 for the year through two events.

Foil won six of its seven matches. Junior Lauren Khoo (San Francisco, Calif.) won all 11 of her matches on the day. Sophomore Daisy Wiseman (Austin, Texas) added nine wins while seniors Leena Hobson (Oakland, Calif.) and senior Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) both tallied on seven occasions.

Sabre recorded four 9-0 scorecards on a 5-2 day. Junior Rebecca Hsieh (Annadale, Va.) had the squad-best mark with seven triumphs. 

Epee's 5-2 performance included five wins from senior Michelle Pan (Arlington, Mass.), sophomore Sissi Zou (Shanghai, China) and first-year Elaine Lin (Flushing, N.Y.).

Wellesley 22, Lafayette 5

Sabre earned a shutout with Hsieh and first-years Joy Xu (Shanghai, China) and Alice Wang (Newport Beach, Calif.) all undefeated. Khoo went 3-0 in foil while Wiseman and first-year Emma Fung (Saratoga, Calif.) added two wins each.

Wellesley 18, Fairleigh-Dickinson 9

All three squads were victorious against FDU. Hsieh and Xu were spotless in sabre to help the unit win 7-2. Sophomore Emily Zhao (Yorktown, Va.) added a point. Wiseman and Khoo teamed up for three foil points while first-year Viola Qian (Jiangsu, China) went 2-1. Sophomore Julia Peeler (Fairfax, Va.) and Lin each collected a pair of epee triumphs and sophomore Renee Sun (The Woodlands, Texas) won the decisive fifth point.

Wellesley 19, Hunter 8

Sabre earned another sweep behind 3-0 performances from Hsieh, Xu and Zhao. Foil and epee each snuck by 5-4. Qian and Hobson both won twice in foil while Wiseman chipped in the fifth tally. Pan and Zou both notched a pair of victories in epee and senior Lily Millard (Selkirk, N.Y.) was the final scorer.

Wellesley 23, Sacred Heart 4

Sabre took a third 9-0 win of the day. Sophomore Judy Bang (Seoul, South Korea) and first-years Lauren Lee (San Diego, Calif.) and Rai Henry (Takoma Park, Md.) all won matches. Hobson, Wiseman and Huang didn't lose in a 8-1 triumph in foil. Lin, Sun and Peeler teamed up for six total scores in epee.

Wellesley 27, Yeshiva 0

Hsieh, Wang, Zhao, Hobson, Qian, Wiseman, Khoo, Fung, Huang, Millard, Pan and Zou all contributed as the team won 100% of its matchups with Yeshiva.

Wagner 14, Wellesley 13

Huang and Khoo captured a trio of wins and Fung won three out of three to give foil an 8-1 squad win. In sabre, Henry took down three opponents while Bang picked up the fourth point. Sun grabbed one point in epee.

Yale 19, Wellesley 8

Khoo swept three opponents in foil and Fung snagged a bout. Henry, Wang and Lee all took a single point in sabre. Peeler grabbed the lone point for sabre.

The Blue are back in action at the Boston College Invitational on Saturday, November 22.
