Wellesley Track & Field Wins Two Events, Takes Third at Lynn Ruddy Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Wellesley College track & field scored third out of nine teams at Bowdoin College's Lynn Ruddy Invitational on Saturday.

Host Bowdoin topped the team competition with 180.5 points. Bates College scored second with 100.5, followed by the Blue (86). 

Junior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was victorious in the Indoor Mile, crossing the line at 5:29.98 to grab 10 points for the Blue. Senior Alicia Naranjo-Champion (El Monte, Calif.) collected the bronze with a time of 5:36.73 and first year Helen Yang (Los Angeles, Calif.) was sixth with a time of 5:54.96.

Senior Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) championed the 400m, topping the field with a time of 1:02.03. Senior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) nabbed third with a 1:03.23 performance. 

In the Triple Jump, senior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) took second place in a field of 14 with a PR distance of 10.44m. Dickinson later captured sixth in the Long Jump with a 4.75m performance. 

Junior Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) hit a new personal best mark of 12.12m to score seventh out of 22 throwers in the Weight Throw. First year Julia Carmona (Bronx, N.Y.) set a season-best mark of 9.37m in the event. Francis grabbed seventh in the Shot Put, throwing 10.27m.

Senior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) and first year Ellie Wolf (Irvine, Calif.) both qualified for the 60m dash finals. The duo went 6-7 in the event, with Ogah running a season-best 8.19 and Wolf clocking in at 8.31.

Wolf later scored silver in the 200m, coming in at 27.11. Ogah was fifth with a time of 27.94.

First year Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) bettered her season time in the 800m event with a time of 2:31.82.

Junior Meg Dugan (Cohasset, Mass.) PR'd in the 1000m, taking fourth place at 3:40.34.

In the 600m race, junior Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) came in at 1:52.85 to place fourth.

Sophomore Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) was fourth in the 5000m with a time of 22:11.37, good for third place.

The Blue will square off with Smith College and Mount Holyoke College at the Peter de Villiers Cup in Northampton, Mass. on Saturday, February 22.
