WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College softball swept both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Curry College on Wednesday. The Blue won game one 5-0 and earned an 8-0 victory in five innings in game two.Â

Wellesley (14-13-1) manufactured a run, to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third, without the benefit of a hit. Junior Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) earned a leadoff walk and went to second on a sac bunt. Delgado then scored from second on a sac bunt by senior Charis Chung (San Gabriel, Calif.).Â
In the fourth, Wellesley opened the frame with back-to-back doubles by first-year Brynne Mellady (Ellicott City, Md.) and sophomore Diana Borrison (San Jose, Calif.) to double the lead to 2-0. Borrison later scored on a ground out by first-year Natalie Nicol (Latexo, Texas). The Blue added a fourth run when Delgado singled home sophomore Anisa Rodriguez (La Quinta, Calif.).Â
The Wellesley lead increased to five in the fifth when sophomore Alena Mulhern (Kingston, Mass.) crossed home plate on a ground out by junior Emeline Gaunce (Los Altos, Calif.).
Senior Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) earned the win in the circle for the Blue. Young went six shutout innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts. Sophomore Jill Colgan (Las Vegas, Nev.) set down the Colonels in order in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.Â

Chung set up the first scoring opportunity for the Blue in the bottom of the first with a triple to left. Chung came in on a fielder's choice by Colgan for the 1-0 lead. Â
Wellesley pushed its lead to 3-0 in the second on a pair of RBI singles by Chung and Colgan.Â
The home team plated three runs on four hits and an error in the fourth to build a 6-0 advantage. Yang scored on a wild pitch and was followed in by Delgado on a throwing error on the same play. Mellady later doubled home Nicol, who pinch ran for Colgan who reached on a double.Â
In the fifth, Delgado singled in first-year Ruijia Yang (Berwyn, Pa.) for a 7-0 margin. Junior Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.) then ended the game with a pinch-hit RBI single to the gap that scored Delgado to clinch the 8-0 victory.Â
Colgan tossed five shutout innings with three hits and four strikeouts to earn the win for the Blue. Colgan, Chung, Delgado and Mellady each finished with two hits at the plate.Â
Next up, the Blue will travel to Smith College for a conference doubleheader at 3 & 5 PM on Friday, April 25. The Colonels (13-17) return home to host U. of New England at 12 & 2 PM on Saturday, April 26.
