Brydges Scores 10000m Bronze, Blue Track & Field in Seventh After First Day of NEWMAC Championships

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field had a trio of top-ten finishes on the opening day of the 2025 NEWMAC Women's Track & Field Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College.

After the first of two days of competition, the Blue sit in seventh out of 10 teams, though only five out of 21 events have been scored. MIT leads the way with 77 points, while Springfield College (26.5) and Coast Guard Academy (18.5) make up the top three. Wheaton College (16), Mount Holyoke College (12), WPI (11), Wellesley (10), Smith College (6), Babson College (2) and Salve Regina University (1) round out the field.

Junior Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) captured the bronze in the 10000m, making the podium with a 38:57.13 performance. First-year Adelaide Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) was 14th, clocking in at 43:05.00. Sophomore Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) grabbed 16th at 44:41.64.

Senior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) earned three points with a sixth place finish out of 20 competitors in the Long Jump, reaching 5.09m. First-year Abigail Choi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) landed at 4.80m to collect 12th in the contest.

In the 100m dash Trials, senior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) not only hit a personal-best time of 12.59, but also came in seventh among 26 runners to qualify for tomorrow's finals., First-year Ellie Wolf (Irvine, Calif.) took 17th in the prelims with a 12.99 time while Choi ran a 13.61.

Junior Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up a point for the Blue in the Hammer Throw, taking eighth with a 38.21m distance. First-year Maya Sharar (Andover, Mass.) grabbed 11th in the event at a season-best 34.89m. Junior Dova Koretsky (Pepperell, Mass.) (17th - 31.37m) and first-year Maggie Berlinger (Ashby, Mass.) (20th - 29.04m) both had top personal distances in the event.

First-year Julia Carmona (Bronx, N.Y.) took part in the Javelin Throw, capturing 16th place by throwing 28.44m.

Day two of competition begins tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
