Blue Golf Tied for Top Spot Through 18 Holes at Liberty League Championships; Yeh and Wang Tied for Lead

4/26/2025 7:17:00 PM

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – No. 6 Wellesley College golf is tied with No. 9 New York University after the first of two days at the 2025 Liberty League Championship. This year's event is being played at the Par 72 Pinehaven CC.

The Blue and NYU each shot 302 (+14). Ithaca College (326) is in third place. Union College (332), Vassar College (360), St. Lawrence University (381) and William Smith College (453) rounded out the seven-team field.

The 34-player field had to navigate difficult conditions throughout the afternoon on the 5,692-yard layout. Play began with light rain before a deluge midway through the round forcing the siren to sound. When play resumed, after about a half hour delay, the rain cleared and the winds picked up. The final four holes were played directly into the howling wind adding distance and tricky club selection.

Sophomores Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) and Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) are tied for first after 18 holes at one over par (73). Yeh went two under on the back nine, including an eagle on the par 4,13th hole and a birdie on 17. After a bogey to begin the round, Wang rattled off 11 pars in a row before a birdie on 13 got the round back to even. Wang added another birdie with two bogeys and two pars on the way in for the 73.

Sophomore Kaurvaki Bajpai (Chantilly, Va.) was one over on the front nine, with eight pars. Bajpai ended the day by carding a 78 (+6) and is currently tied for seventh place.

First-year Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) also shot a 78 (+6) and is tied for seventh. Boyd's lone birdie came on the eighth hole to help post a 38 on the way out, before coming in with a 40.

Sophomore Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) started the day with seven straight pars before ending the day eight over with an 80 to tie for 11th. Lewis birdied the 16th to help play the final five holes in even par.

Day two of competition starts on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
