SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wellesley College cross country earned fourth out of 11 teams at the 6k NCAA DIII Men's and Women's Cross Country Pre-National Meet at the Roger Milliken Center.
No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps topped the team competition with a score of 126. No. 15 Vassar claimed second with a score of 79, followed by Case Western Reserve (113) and then the Blue (126).
Senior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) was the top finisher for Wellesley. The senior came in 15th out of 100 entrants, hitting the finish line at 22:45.3. Classmate Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) placed 20th with a time of 23:04.7.
First-year Cadence Chang (Boston, Mass.) put together a 23:26.0 performance, good for 30th place. Only one spot behind Chang was senior Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.), completing the race at 23:27.9.
First-year Lucy Kontos (Lexington, Mass.) captured 33rd at 23:30.7. Senior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was in the top half of all competitors in 44th with a time of 23:56.6.
Senior Elise Lanahan (Greenville, S.C.) took 60th (24:46.9). First-years Avery Lieb (Ojai, Calif.) and Zoë Cort (San Francisco, Calif.) came in 63rd and 64th respectively. Lieb crossed at 24:51.2 while Cort had a time of 24:57.3.
Rounding out Wellesley's runners was sophomore Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) (72nd - 25:31.6), first-year Sophia Trabuco (Rochester, Minn.) (73rd - 25:33.7), sophomore Addie Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (78th - 25:55.1), junior Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) (26:27.7) and sophomore Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) (93rd - 27:31.8).
Up next, the Blue will be competing at the Keene State Invitational on Saturday, October 4.
