WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving was victorious on Sunday, capturing the Wellesley Invitational title at Chandler Pool. The Blue won the meet with 1245.5 points. Smith College (1035.5), Mount Holyoke College (724.5), Westfield State University (460) and Simmons University (267.5) all competed in the invitational.

First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) separated from the pack early and cruised to a victory in the 1650 Free, completing the mile at 18:27.80. Classmate Margaret Lockman (Princeton Junction, N.J.) finished fifth in the race, breaking the 20-minute mark at 19:46.37. Senior Leah Butler (Eugene, Ore.) set a personal-record with a 20:08.07 to claim sixth in the event.

In the 200 Back, first-year Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) blazed the trail with a 2:08.68 time. Sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) had a 2:09.46 runner-up performance and senior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) tied for third at 2:10.18.

First-year Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) claimed silver in 100 Free, clocking in at 54.56. Classmate Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China) captured fourth with a 55.12 time.

Senior Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) continued a streak of first places in breaststroke events, this time winning the 200 Breaststroke at 2:22.97. First-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) came in second, touching at 2:28.36.

Zheng added a bronze in the penultimate event of the invitational, with a time of 2:24.07 in the 200 Fly.

The Blue finished the meet with a strong showing in the 400 Free Relay. Kung, Fender, first-year Adilene Dela Cruz (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and Machleidt teamed up for a 3:41.76 performance that was over seven seconds ahead of the second place team.

Up next, the Blue will travel to Smith on Saturday, January 24 to compete against the Bears and Springfield College.
