Swimming & Diving Adds Smith/Springfield to the Win Column

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving picked up two more victories on Saturday at Smith College with Springfield College in a tri-meet. The Blue improved to 11-1 in dual meets with a 213-83 win over Springfield and 157-141 scoreline against Smith.

The 200 Medley Relay kicked things off by setting a pool record with a 1:49.57 win. The team consisted of seniors Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), and first-years Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) and Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.).

Kung and Liu were the top two finishers in the 100 Back. Kung won with a 1:00.09 time while Liu was second at 1:01.56. 

Kung also grabbed the top spot in the 50 Free (25.53), while classmate Adilene Dela Cruz (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) ended the race in third (26.42).

Kung made it three wins by taking the 200 Back with a leading 2:11.52. Sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) grabbed third, coming in at 2:14.95.

In the 100 Breaststroke race, Sekhon finished first with a 1:07.37 showing. First-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) was the runner-up, hitting the wall at 1:09.60. Senior Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) narrowly missed the podium in fourth with a 1:15.93.

Sekhon added top honors in the 200 Breaststroke at 2:28.08. Richard was third, finishing with a 2:30.70 time.

Richard later added a win in the 200 IM with a 2:14.94 time.

First-years Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China) and Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) went 1-2 in the 100 Free. Zhao won with a 55.82 and Zheng swam a 55.96 for second.

First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) was the 1000 Free champion, leading the pack with an 11:12.64 time. Machleidt added silver in the 500 Free, putting up a 5:39.09.

Choe swam a 2:19.33 and claimed second in the 200 Fly. Choe later repeated the second place finish in the 100 Fly, this time with a 1:01.07 performance.

In 1-Meter Diving, senior Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) scored a 220.15 and placed fifth. Marsden claimed sixth in 3-Meter Diving with a 199.65 score.

Up next, the Blue will host Babson College on Saturday 31 at 11:00 AM at Chandler Pool. That meet will serve as both Senior Day and Earn The W Day for the Blue.
