Track & Field Wins Multiple Events at Massasoit Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field won multiple events at Springfield College's Massasoit Classic on Saturday.

Senior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) claimed the 1000m win, narrowly missing a New England DIII Championship cut with a 3:12.31.

First-year Sophia Trabuco (Rochester, Minn.) won the Mile event, hitting the finish line at 5:39.08. Sophomore Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) finished sixth with a 5:45.60 time.

In the 3000m, first-year Zoë Cort (San Francisco, Calif.) defeated the competition with a top-time of 11:03.27. Classmate Avery Lieb (Ojai, Calif.) took the bronze at 11:20.13. Sophomore Helen Yang (Woodland Hills, Calif.) (9th - 11:33.07) and first-year Bela Kumar (Natick, Mass.) (11th - 11:47.55) both competed in the event.

First-year Sophia Wang (Livingston, N.J.) was the High Jump runner-up, clearing 1.58m. Wang also finished fourth in the Triple Jump competition, with a 10.36m mark.

Sophomore Ellie Wolf (Irvine, Calif.) earned a New England DIII Championship mark in the 60m, earning 10th out of 44 runners with an 8.30 time. Classmate Kaia Lam (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed 19th at 8.54 while sophomore Abigail Choi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) ran an 8.97.

Wolf went on to run a 27.12 second 200m dash and collect fifth. 

In the 400m, senior Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) nabbed fifth place with a 1:03.81 time.

Senior Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore Maya Sharar (Andover, Mass.) finished 10th and 11th in the Shot Put. Francis took 10th at 9.37m and claimed 11th, throwing for 9.23m.

Francis later took the fifth spot in the Weight Throw, registering a 12.93m toss. Sophomore Maggie Berlinger (Ashby, Mass.) had a PR of 12.12m for sixth place while Sharar set a personal-best distance of 11.66m.

Choi jumped 4.61m in the Long Jump and senior Dova Koretsky (Pepperell, Mass.) recorded a 4.07m mark in the sand.

In the 4x400m Relay, Klingensmith, Peng, first-year Madalena Ritz-Meuret (Dallas, Texas) and Wolf placed third, finishing the relay at 4:16.51

Up next, Wellesley will compete on Friday, January 30 at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic.
