WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving celebrated Senior Day with a 168-109 win over Babson College at Chandler Pool on Saturday. With the win, the Blue now sit at 12-1 in dual-meet competition this year.
Prior to the meet, the Blue recognized the contributions of seniors Leah Butler (Eugene, Ore.), Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.), Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.).
Liu, Sekhon and first-years Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) and Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) clinched first in the 200 Medley Relay with a 1:46.63 time.
First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) finished first in the 1000 Free, clocking in at 11:17.56. Junior Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) earned bronze in the race at 11:42.05.
Machleidt finished in second place in the 500 Free, touching the wall at 5:34.84.
First-years Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.), Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) and senior Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) went 1-2-3 in the 200 Free. Richard topped all times at 1:58.79 while Zheng (2:04.12) and Reich (2:06.40) were just behind.
Richard was first among all competition in the 200 IM, with a 2:12.26 showing.
Zheng would later take third place in the 100 Free race, coming in at 55.42.
Kung's 58.79 time won the 100 Back while sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) swam a 1:00.78 to become the runner-up. Kung was also second in the 50 Free with a time of 25.06.
Kung repeated the feat in the 200 Back, winning with a 2:09.71 performance. Fender was the runner-up with a 2:14.76 time.
Marsden was the 1-Meter Diving champion, recording a 440.70 11-dive score. Sophomore Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) (391.20) and first-year Vicki Huang (San Diego, Calif.) (272.85) took second and third respectively.
Sekhon was the 100 Breaststroke champion, hitting the wall at 1:06.92. First-year Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China) claimed third at 1:12.63. Sekhon also won the 200 Breaststroke at 2:27.39 while Richard (2:28.50) captured silver.
Choe scored a second-place finish in 100 Fly, registering a 59.56 time.
In the 200 Fly, first-year Margaret Lockman (Princeton Junction, N.J.) completed the race in 2:26.06 to take bronze.
The Blue are off the next couple of weekends before competing at the NEWMAC Championships from February 19-22 at MIT.
