Swimming & Diving Earns a "B" Cut, Second Team All-Conference Honor on Second Day of NEWMAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving moved up to third place on the second day of the 2026 NEWMAC Championships at MIT's Zesiger Center Pool.

Host MIT holds the lead with 615 points. Coast Guard Academy sits in second at 305 while the Blue round out the podium with 246. Babson College (232), Wheaton College (200), Smith College (197), WPI (176), Springfield College (157), Clark University (105) and Mount Holyoke College (94) make up the rest of the field.

The 400 Medley Relay team had a spectacular showing on Friday. Seniors Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) and first-years Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) and Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) swam a 3:48.83 to finish second, which earns a NCAA "B" cut. The quartet also earned NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference honors.

The 200 Free Relay team of Choe, first-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.), Liu and Kung earned fourth in the "A" finals with a time of 1:37.27. The time set a Blue program record by .05 seconds. 

Richard claimed ninth in the 200 IM "A" finals, hitting the wall at 2:10.61. In the "B" finals, sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) (7th - 2:14.03) and Sekhon (8th - 2:14.80) finished back-to-back. Junior Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) swam in the event and took 29th in the event, hitting the wall at 2:21.08.

Senior Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) scored 419.00 in the 11-dive format of 1-Meter Diving, good for seventh place. 

In the 500 Free, first-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) finished fifth in the "B" finals, with a 5:19.79. Also competing in the race was junior Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) (27th - 5:35.60), senior Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) (29th - 5:36.71), first-year Margaret Lockman (Princeton Junction, N.J.) (36th - 5:40.79) and senior Leah Butler (Portland, Ore.) (40th - 5:44.59).

Kung captured fifth with a 24.11 time in the 50 Free "A" finals. First-year Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China) (5th - 24.99), senior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) ( 9th - 25.40) and first-year Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) (10th - 25.48) each raced in the "B" finals .

Competition continues tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 10:00 AM.
