CLERMONT, Fla. – Wellesley College softball began the 2026 year with a 3-2 walkoff win versus Salem State University as part of THE Spring Games at Legends Way Ballfields on Monday. In game two, the Blue led 2-0 after four innings against Framingham State University before the game was canceled due to rain after four innings.
Game 1 | Wellesley 3, Salem State 2 | Final
An offensive capped off by a walkoff single from first-year Brooklyn Awad (Montclair, N.J.) in the bottom of the seventh helped Wellesley defeat the Vikings in the opener.
Junior Alena Mulhern (Kingston, Mass.) went 4-for-4 and scored a run while Awad had three hits and drove in two runs.
Junior Jill Colgan (Las Vegas, Nev.) tossed 6.2 innings in the circle, allowing two unearned runs and six hits while striking out a pair. First-year Lauren Seyller (South Elgin, Ill.) got the team out of a jam in the top of the seventh, and earned a win for her efforts.
The Vikings (2-2) opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning. Junior Abigail LaClair (Wilmington, Mass.) hit into a fielder's choice that brought home classmate Samantha Gaona- Sullivan (Billerica, Mass.).
Awad singled through the left side in the latter half of the second to plate Mulhern and knot the score up at 1-1. Colgan then helped herself out by bringing in senior Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) on a grounder to first. After three innings, Wellesley led 2-1.
Gaona- Sullivan dropped a sacrifice bunt with a runner on third in the top of fourth that set up a run down with sophomore Abby Richardson (Bluefield, W.Va.) at third. An overthrow in the rundown caused Richardson to score before the Blue stopped the bleeding at 2-2.
Salem State loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh. Seyller came into the game for a collegiate debut and caused a grounder to get out of the inning unscathed.
Junior Sarah Wicker (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) pinch-hit to the bottom of the seventh with a screamer double to left. Mulhern advanced Wicker to third with a single up the middle before Delgado walked to put runners on all bases. Awad delivered the game-winner with a hit over the right fielder's head, with first-year Sophia Fredericks (Chicago, Ill.) trotting in to win the game.
Wellesley had nine hits as a unit and drew three walks.
Game 2 | Wellesley 2, Framingham State 0 | Canceled After 4 Innings
Wellesley led the Rams (1-3), 2-0, after four innings of play. Unfortunately, due to thunder and rain, the game was called off without an official conclusion.
Wicker had thrown all four innings, allowing only one hit and one walk, while fanning six.
Both of Wellesley's runs came in the top half of the second inning. Sophomore Natalie Nicol (Crockett, Texas) blasted a triple to right center that allowed junior Anisa Rodriguez (La Quina, Calif.) to cross the plate. Nicol later came in on a single up the middle from Mulhern.
The Blue have another spring break doubleheader tomorrow. The team faces No. 13 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 11:15 AM and Wesleyan University at 1:45 PM, with both at Legends Way Ballfields.
