BABSON PARK, Mass. – Wellesley College lacrosse fell 18-3 to No. 18/RV Babson College on Wednesday at MacDowell Field.
Senior Lilly Bedard (Jupiter, Fla.) recorded six points (four goals, two assists) for the Beavers (4-2 Overall, 1-1 NEWMAC). First-year Hailey Murray (Swarthmore, Pa.) added four goals. Junior goalies Morgan McGahan (Ho Ho Kus, N.J.) and Valentina Erigoyen (Miami, Fla.) each prevented a pair of shots from going in while first-year Francesca Tamburini (North Bend, Wash.) stopped three shots.
The Blue (3-5 Overall, 1-2 NEWMAC) saw goals from sophomore Charlotte Petersen-Kopman (St. Louis, Mo.) and first-years Milica Simic (Park Ridge, Ill.) and Eliza Wysong (Kansas City, Mo.) Senior Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) made three saves, first-year Scarlett McArthur (Toronto, Ontario) stopped four shots, sophomore Aspen Caudill (Louisville, Ky.) earned a save and sophomore Elaina Brookhart (Mystic, Conn.) saved two shots. Wysong tied for a game-high five draw controls.
Babson raced out to an 8-1 lead after one quarter of action. Bedard had a hat-trick for the Beavers. Petersen-Kopman recorded the lone goal for the Blue.
The hosts scored all four goals of the second period to improve its lead to 12-1 by halftime.
A goal from Murray made it 13-1 Babson in the third before Simic converted on a free-position shot to make it 13-2. A late third period goal put Babson up 14-2 with 15 minutes remaining in the contest.
Babson outscored Wellesley 4-1 in the final quarter to close out an 18-3 win. First-year Wysong was the scorer for Wellesley.Â
The Blue will return to Butler Stadium to host Salve Regina University at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 28. The Beavers welcome Smith College at that same date and time.
