SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – No. 15 Wellesley College golf climbed two spots to finish fifth at Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College at the Par-72, 5,665-yard Orchards Golf Club.
Wellesley finished the 36-hole event with a 629 (+53) team score. No. 2 New York U. won the event at +21 (597), while No. 4 Williams College (603, +27) and No. 6 Amherst (604, +28) rounded out the podium.
First-year Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) paced the Blue and ended the competition tied for fourth out of 66 golfers. Li went four over on Sunday (76) with a 149 overall. Consistency was the name of the game for the first-year, who had 14 pars across 18 holes on Sunday.
Sophomore Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) carded a 78 (+6) on Sunday to end the tournament t-25th at 157 (+13). Boyd birdied the 13th hole on Sunday to help drop a stroke on the second day of the event.
Junior Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) finished Sunday with a 77 (+5) that saw a trio of birdies, a six-stroke improvement from Saturday. Sun's 160 total for the weekend landed the junior in t-33rd.
Classmate Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) shot an even 80 (+8) with a birdie on the ninth hole to conclude 36-holes with a score of 163 (+19). Lewis wound in t-44th.
Junior Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) dropped six strokes from Saturday with an 80 (+8) final round to place t-48th with a 166 (+22).
First-year Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) played as an individual and carded an 82 (+10) on Sunday. Lee placed t-48th with Yeh for the weekend at 166 (+22).
The Blue will compete at the Northeast Invitational on April 18-19 at the Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass.
