NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) earned a Second Team All-Conference honor to highlight Wellesley College track & field's first day of the two-day 2026 NEWMAC Championships, taking place at Coast Guard Academy.
The Blue are currently tied for fifth out of 10 teams with 14 points. MIT leads the field with 96.5, followed by Wheaton (23.5), Smith (14.5), Springfield (14.5), Wellesley, Babson (14), Coast Guard (7.5), WPI (5), Mount Holyoke (4.5) and Salve Regina (1).
Brydges raced to a 37:42.52 time in the 10000m race. Brydges was the runner-up out of 18 runners, earning Second Team All-Conference honors and grabbing the team eight points in the process. The time ranks 79th in Division III this season.
First-year Avery Lieb (Ojai, Calif.) earned two points with a seventh place finish in the 10000m and a time of 40:25.10. Junior Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) finished 12th, crossing the finish line at 41:33.23.
In the Hammer Throw, senior Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) reached 43.35m to finish sixth out of 27 throwers and earn three team points for the Blue. Sophomore Maya Sharar (Andover, Mass.) threw for a distance of 37.79m, good for ninth place. Classmate Maggie Berlinger (Ashby, Mass.) (15th - 35.59m) and senior Dova Koretsky (Pepperell, Mass.) (22nd - 30.35m) both competed in the event as well.
Senior Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished eighth with a distance of 5.11m to earn a point in the Long Jump. First-year Shriya Kundranda (Scottsdale, Ariz.) (17th - 4.63m), Sophomore Abigail Choi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) (18th - 4.60m) and first-year Christina Yan (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) (19th - 4.17m) rounded out Wellesley's competitors.
Sophomore Julia Carmona's (Bronx, N.Y.) distance of 25.62m earned 14th in the Javelin Throw. First-year Eliza Glick (Dumont, N.J.) also competed in the event, hitting a 23.96m mark to capture 16th.
In the 100m dash prelims, Yan ran a season-best time of 13.48 to claim 21st place.
Day two kicks off tomorrow at 10:30 AM.
