WORCESTER, Mass. – No. 7 Wellesley College crew competed at the annual National Invitational Rowing Championships on Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond.
In the Varsity Eight's initial round, the team put up an impressive 7:19.907 mark, trailing only Williams in the seven-team race. Blue Crew earned a spot in the Grand Final. In the latter race, the team finished fifth overall, in front of William Smith, by crossing the finish line at 7:22.878.
Blue Crew's Second Varsity Eight claimed third out of six behind Trinity and Wesleyan but ahead of WPI, Colby and Skidmore in the opening race. Wellesley's 7:41.850 time moved it into the afternoon's Petite Final. The Blue won the Petite Final race, topping the competition, including rival Smith, with a time of 7:45.768.
In the initial Third Varsity Eight race, the Blue finished third out of six, with a time of 7:45.833. The squad made the Grand Final with its performance, taking fifth place in the afternoon after putting up an 8:09.505 mark.
The Varsity Four came in second place in its opening race, recording a 8:58.583 time to make the Grand Final. The boat captured bronze in the Grand Final with a 9:33.867 time, ahead of Wesleyan, UNH and WPI.Â
