SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field saw a program record fall and multiple top-8 performances on the second day of the New England DIII Championships on Saturday.
The Blue ended the two-day event with 20.5 total team points to earn T-13th place.
Senior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) claimed eighth in the 400m Hurdles, clocking in at 1:05.67. Whinney's time marked a Blue program record.
Senior Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) was the 3000m Steeplechase runner-up, completing the event at 11:22.38 and earning eight points. First-year Sophia Trabuco (Rochester, Minn.) took 11th place with a 12:05.00 time.
Senior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) set a personal-best by over four seconds in the 1500m with a 4:47.65. Peng finished eighth in the event and earned a point for Wellesley.
In the High Jump, first-year Sophia Wang (Livingston, N.J.) cleared the bar at a season-high height of 1.57m, a mere hundredth of a meter off of the Blue program record. Wang later captured 19th in the Triple Jump, reaching 10.29m.
Sophomore Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) took 18th in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:21.13.
In the 400m, senior Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) came in 19th place with a time of 1:01.64.
The 4x800m Relay team of Whinney, Peng, Rice and sophomore Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) combined for a 9:41.24 time, good for fifth place.
The Blue are back in action on May 8-9 at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championship, hosted by Stonehill College.
