Blue Softball Season Ends with 6-0 Playoff Loss at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – No. 5 seed Wellesley College softball saw its season come to a close with a 6-0 defeat at No. 3 seed Springfield College on Friday. The Blue have finished the season with a 20-15 record, its highest win total since 2015.

Game 1 | Springfield 6, Wellesley 0 | Final

Senior Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) twirled seven scoreless innings with a trio of k's for the Pride (27-13). The maroon bats supplied 13 hits.

Springfield brought home two in the first inning to go out in front early. After a pair of hits put baserunners on second and third, senior Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) stepped up to the dish. The senior drove a single to left-center, scoring both senior Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) AND DeRosa.

Wellesley had a run chance in the second but was unable to come away with runs. Hits from junior Anisa Rodriguez (La Quinta, Calif.) and senior Emeline Gaunce (Los Altos, Calif.) put two in scoring position with one out. However, DeRosa induced a strikeout and a grounder to keep Wellesley off of the scoreboard.

The Pride tacked on a third run with an RBI hit to left-center from Pecchia. Sophomore Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.) advanced home from second on the play. The hosts later added on a fourth run in the fifth inning. Sophomore Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) hit a sacrifice fly to center, driving in Katsetos.

Springfield supplied a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to go up 6-0. A Hunter double plated senior Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.). Hunter then came across on a hit to left field by Pecchia.

First-year Lauren Seyller (South Elgin, Ill.) pitched the first .2 innings for Wellesley and was charged with two earned runs. Junior Jill Colgan (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched 3.1 innings of one in relief, striking two out. Sophomore Bella Hassett (North Granby, Conn.) allowed three runs in one inning in the circle. Junior Sarah Wicker (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) came in for a clean inning.
