WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College crew Varsity Eight took runner-up honors in the Collegiate Women's Eights at the 55th Head Of The Charles Regatta (HOCR) on Sunday, October 20, on the Charles River in Boston. The second place finish was the best in program history in the event.
The Blue had two entries in the Women's Collegiate Eights for the fifth consecutive year. Wellesley's Varsity Eight Crew, finished with a time of 16:47.200 to finish second. Only defending national champion Bates (16:26.595) finished with a faster time on Sunday.
Wellesley's Second Varsity Eight finished in 20th with a time of 17:45.617 in the Women's Collegiate Eights. The Blue have now had a crew in the top-ten of the Women's Collegiate Eights in nine of the last ten years. Closing out the day, the Wellesley Varsity Four took 17th in the Women's Collegiate Fours event in 19:25.961.
Founded in 1965, the HOCR is a two-day rowing event featuring many of the top rowers, teams and clubs from around the world. Wellesley will return to the Charles River to close out the fall next Saturday, October 26, within an intersquad regatta.
