MEDFORD, Mass. – Wellesley volleyball stretched its record to 14-3 with a strong performance on Day One of the Tufts Invitational. Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK) led the Blue to a 3-1 win over Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, Ill.) in the opening match, tallying 16 kills on 35 attempts. Samantha Du (Houston, Tx)and Casi Schwisow (Bellevue, Wash.) added nine and seven kills, respectively. Emily Peters (Temescal Valley, Calif.) amassed 24 digs in the win. The Blue then swept Endicott College 3-0, as Du hammered 10 kills and Duff and Alice Cummings (Tallahassee, Fla.) added nine each. Peters once again led all players with 22 digs, while Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, Calif.) tallied 38 assists.
Wellesley joins host Tufts University and Union College (N.Y) at 2-0 on the opening night of play at the fifth annual Tufts Volleyball Invitational on Friday night. The team with the best record after tomorrow's second round of play will be crowned champion. Sets won and point totals will break ties. After Friday, Union is 6-0 in sets while Tufts and Wellesley are 6-1.
Union and Wellesley meet in a key early match on Saturday at 10 am. Tufts then faces Union at noon. Tufts and Wellesley do not face each other. MIT and Colby-Sawyer both have 1-1 records heading into Saturday's play. Colby-Sawyer defeated MIT in head-to-head play 3-0. Endicott, Elmhurst and Polytechnic all lost both of their Friday matches.
