Wellesley Goes 2-0 at NESCAC/NEWMAC Challenge

MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Wellesley College volleyball team improved to 3-0 on the season with two convincing wins at Wesleyan University's NEWMAC/NESCAC Challenge.  The Blue dropped just one set all day with a 3-0 win over Williams and a 3-1 victory against Wesleyan.

Against Williams (0-2), Wellesley's Alice Cummings (Tallahassee, Fla.) tallied 12 kills and 16 digs while Samantha Du (Houston, TX) picked up 12 kills to go along with a .524 hitting efficiency.  Wellesley took the match in three sets, winning 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22.  

Also in the Williams match, Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK) added 11 kills, Emily Peters' (Temescal Valley, Calif.) had 14 digs while Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, Calif) contributed 40 assists.

In a 3-1 win over Wesleyan (2-1), the Blue won a marathon first set 33-31 before dropping the next set 24-26.  Wellesley bounced back with a 25-18 win in set three and sealed the match with a 25-17 fourth set victory.  Duff led the Blue with 13 kills while Cummings had 11 kills and 14 digs.  Peters tallied 19 digs in the match while Peng dished out 32 assists.

Wellesley will next be in action at Brandeis University with a 7:00pm match on Tuesday, September 9th.
