BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Wellesley College volleyball team
continued to roll through the New England Women's and Men's
Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) on Tuesday night, as the visiting
Blue defeated host Babson College, 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-19), in
Staake Gymnasium. With the win, Wellesley improved to 15-5 overall
and 6-1 in the conference, while the Beavers dipped to 8-14 overall
and 1-6 in the NEWMAC.
Wellesley was led by sophomore Isabel
Custodio, who recorded eight kills and 17 assists, and
first-year Kellyn
O'Brady, who added nine kills. First-year Traci
Hamanaka chipped in with a team-high 20 digs, senior
Victoria
Peng matched Custodio with 17 assists, and sophomore
Elizabeth Campbell contributed seven
kills.
Babson was led by sophomore Kathleen Lynch, who recorded 16
assists and 10 digs, and junior Mila Milovanovic, who posted seven
kills and nine digs. First-year libero Jessica Millman tallied a
team-high 11 digs for the Beavers, while senior captain Katy Alea
contributed nine digs.
Wellesley dominated the opening set, starting off with an 11-0 run
en route to a 25-9 victory. Babson then grabbed an early 5-4 lead
on a Milovanovic kill in set two, but the Blue responded with a 7-0
burst before running away with a 25-15 win. The final set was a
much closer affair, with Wellesley pulling away late for a
match-clinching 25-19 victory
