Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- In the final match of the Hall of Fame
Tournament, Wellesley volleyball defeated Brandeis University 3-1
(19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-15) on Saturday afternoon at Smith
College. Wellesley now stands at 16-7 on the year.
Brandeis falls to 13-14. With the win, which avenged an
opening-season loss to the Judges on September 8, the Blue secured
seventh place in the 16-team, two-day tournament.
After an opening-set loss, the Blue came alive to grab three
straight games and close the match. Wellesley's offense, in
particular, began hitting on all cylinders. After hitting
only .067 in the first set, the Blue hit .146 in the second set,
.343 in the third, and a remarkable .500 in the fourth and final
game.
Elizabeth
Campbell led Wellesley with 14 kills, 12 digs and one
block, while Amanda
Duritsch recorded 11 kills, two aces, and six
blocks. Isabel
Custodio notched nine kills and Taylor
King added eight. Custodio and Victoria
Peng combined for 45 assists in the four-set win.
Custodio, who racked up 35 kills and 48 assists while hitting
.373 for the weekend, earned All-Tournament honors.
The Blue return to action Tuesday, October 26, at 7:00pm when
they travel to Coast Guard for a key NEWMAC match-up.
