Box Score WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley seniors Victoria Peng and Madeleine Brumley celebrated Senior Day with season-highs as they led the Blue to a 3-1 comeback win over Clark University Saturday afternoon at Keohane Sports Center. Wellesley finishes the regular season with a mark of 17-8, 7-2 in the NEWMAC. Clark drops to 12-11 on the year, 4-5 in conference play.
Both squads return to action Tuesday, November 2, at 7:00, when they face each other at Wellesley College in quarterfinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament.
Clark opened today's match with a 7-2 lead in set one. Wellesley battled back and ultimately edged out to an 18-16 advantage. But the Cougars rallied to grab a 25-23 win while holding the Blue to a .136 hitting average in the set. The next three frames, however, belonged to Wellesley as the Blue hit .380 while winning 25-16, 25-17, and 25-19 to seal the match.
For Clark, Kristin McGinty and Amira Tranchell tallied eight kills each. Tranchell also added four blocks, while Kortney Kelley and Maritza Fair recorded 11 digs a piece. Rachel Spera distributed 24 assists in the loss.
Isabel Custodio and Elizabeth Campbell led the Blue with 20 and 16 kills, respectively. Brumley added a season-high 10 kills, while Kellyn O'Brady chipped in nine. Campbell and Allison Li combined for 22 digs, and Kira Jordan added four kills and four blocks. Peng dished out a season-high 35 assists in the win.
