WELLESLEY, Mass. – The visiting Amherst College volleyball
team posted a three-set victory over Wellesley College on Friday
evening at the Keohane Sports Center. The match was the season
opener for the Lord Jeffs (1-0) and the home opener for the Blue,
who fall to 0-2 in 2010.
Amherst opened the match with a 25-15 victory in the first set,
as Wellesley was hampered by nine errors, posting a negative
hitting percentage. The second set was a back-and-forth affair,
with the Lord Jeffs again coming out on top, this time by a 28-26
score. Wellesley started strong in the third, but Amherst ran away
with the set, recording a 25-18 win to take the match, 3-0.
Wellesley's offense was led by nine kills from
sophomore Elizabeth
Campbell while classmate Taylor
King added six. Junior Amanda
Duritsch added five kills, while
sophomore Isabel
Custodio registered five kills and 17
assists.
Cristy Meier led the Lord Jeffs offense posting 11 kills, while
Laura Hyman had an impressive outing with seven kills in nine
attacks with no errors, hitting .778 on the evening.
