WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley Volleyball grabbed its first
win of the season on Saturday afternoon, with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22,
25-19) win over Wesleyan University in the final match of the
Wellesley volleyball tri-match. The win lifts the Blue to
1-2. Wesleyan starts its season 0-2.
Wellesley broke to a 12-8 lead in the opening set enroute to a
25-17 win. The Blue took an early lead in the second game as
well, but the Cardinals charged back to tie the score at 19-19
before Wellesley hung on for the 25-22 win. Wesleyan edged to
9-7 lead in game three, but Wellesley closed the gap and broke away
to a 14-10 advantage as they cruised to the straight-set win.
For the Blue, Elizabeth
Campbell notched her second double-double of the
season with 11 kills and 20 digs. Isabel
Custodio and Kaitlin
Bradshaw added seven kills each,
while Julia
Adams chipped in six. Defensive
specialists Allison
Li and Traci Hamanaka recorded three aces and two aces,
respectively, while Custodio and Victoria
Peng combined for 26 assists.
Monica Leslie and Casey Reed hammered nine kills each to lead
the visitors at the net. Alissa Santucci and Ruby Hernandez
tallied 11 and nine digs, respectively, while Laura Yim distributed
26 assists in the loss.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, September 15, when
they host Keene State in a 7:00pm non-conference match-up.
The Blue will take the court on Tuesday in their NEWMAC opener,
with a home match against Smith College at 7:00pm.
