The Wellesley College and Babson College women's soccer teams
played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Saturday afternoon in the
NEWMAC opener for both squads. With the draw, Wellesley's
record moves to 3-2-1, while Babson is 5-1-1.
Neither team amassed much offense in regulation play, with the
best chances for both schools coming in the second half.
Babson strung together three consecutive attempts at the 50-minute
mark, but couldn't break the tie. Patty Pytlik recorded a
shot during the run while Ashley Tourso added a pair, the first of
which was a bullet saved by Wellesley keeper, Sarah
Gray.
The Blue had their best scoring opportunity in the final minute
of the second half. After a Babson turnover, Wellelsey's
Chelsea-Ann
Patry got the ball in the right corner and sent a high
cross to Ariel
Chao in front of the net. Chao launched a shot
into the corner, but Babson's Lisa Wojnar made a diving save to
preserve the tie and send the game into overtime.
After the first overtime period ended scoreless, the Blue had
another opportunity late in the second. However, another
sprawling save from Babson's Wojnar kept Megan
Turchi from winning the game for the Blue.
Wellesley held a 14-8 shot advantage in the game, including a
4-2 margin in overtime. Wojnar finished with six saves for
Babson, while Gray added four in net for the Blue.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday with a non-conference tilt
against Bridgewater State at 6:00pm. Wellesley next plays at
Bates College on Wednesday at 4:30pm.
