WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wellesley College crew team opened the 2011 fall racing season with a fantastic performance at the Snake Regatta on Worcester's Lake Quinsigamond. The Blue entered five boats in the event, recording four top-two finishes on the day.
Among varsity eight competitions, Wellesley ranked second, just behind Bates, finishing in 14:28.6, to the Bobcat's 14:22.5. The Blue bested crews from Holy Cross, Simmons, UNH, Smith and Colby.
Wellesley's second varsity eight also ranked second. The Blue finished behind only Division-I Holy Cross, while defeating WPI, Mount Holyoke, Bates, Smith UNH, Simmons and Colby.
Wellesley's third varsity ranked fourth among its competition. The Blue recorded a time of 16:25, defeating Smith, WPI, Mount Holyoke and Simmons.
In novice racing, Wellesley ranked first in both groupings. Among first novice boats, the Blue finished with a time of 16:55 besting their nearest competitor by 13 seconds. In the second novice ranking, Wellesley outpaced both Simmons and Smith.
Blue crew is back on the water next weekend at the 47th annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Wellesley Athletics will be hosting an alumnae, family and friends gathering at the event. More details here!
