Box Score NORTON, Mass. – Senior Amanda Duritsch and sophomore Kellyn O'Brady each recorded six kills to lead the Wellesley College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Wheaton College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Tuesday night at Emerson Gymnasium.
The Blue won game one 25-11, game two 25-22, and game three 25-19 to move to 10-5 on the season (4-1 NEWMAC) and 34-2 all-time against the Lyons (2-15, 0-5 NEWMAC).
Duritsch paced the Blue to a .400 hitting percentage in the opening frame with five kills on seven attempts (.714). Sophomore Marguerite Copeland paced the Lyons with two kills while junior Olanna Nissim recorded a pair of service aces.
In game two, O'Brady and classmate Julia Adams each tallied four kills for Wellesley. Copeland and sophomore Lindsay Tebbetts each notched a pair of kills for the Lyons, who also saw senior Emily Davisson and junior Christina Cannon team up for 11 digs.
First-year Caitlin Laughlin led the Blue in the third set with three kills while sophomore Kira Jordan came off the bench to notch four blocks (one solo). Cannon led the Lyons with three kills while Davisson had six digs.
Copeland finished with five kills to lead Wheaton while Cannon, Tebbetts, and sophomore Rachel Vergara each finished with four kills. Davisson tallied 13 digs while Nissim dished out 13 assists to go along with five service aces and three digs.
For Wellesley, Laughlin and Adams each finished with four kills. Junior Isabel Custodio recorded 20 assists while junior Vivian Hu posted a team-high nine digs.
The Lyons return to action on Friday when they face Bridgewater State and the University of New England at the 31st Annual Crabtree Classic at Eastern Connecticut State. The Blue travel to Tufts for a 7 p.m. match Wednesday night.
