WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College crew team went 4-3 in seven races on Saturday morning on the Malden River. The Blue picked up a sweep over Tufts University, winning all four races, but fell in three tight races to #3 Bates.
Wellesley's first varsity boat opened with a convincing win over the Jumbos, recording a time of 6:49.5 to Tufts' 7:15.0. Against Bates, the top Blue boat fell by only seven seconds, as Bates finished the race in 6:42.8.
In second varsity action, Wellesley posted a time of 6:56.7, outdistancing Tufts who finished in 7:01.9. Against Bates, the Blue recorded a time of 7:05.3, while Bates edged the boat with a 6:57.7.
The third varsity boat also picked up a win over Tufts, as the Blue recorded a 7:32.8 compared to a time of 7:45.4 for the Jumbos. Against Bates, the Blue fell by only five seconds, as the Bobcats recorded a 7:22.4 to Wellesley's 7:27.5.
In novice racing, the Blue picked up an 11-second victory over Tufts in their only race of the morning. Wellesley finished in 7:09.5, while Tufts recorded a 7:20.1.
