Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Wellesley College volleyball team rebounded after a disappointing day one at the MIT Invitational, by sweeping play in the Bronze Bracket on day two. The Blue posted 3-0 wins over both Newbury and Smith to finish in ninth place at the event.
The wins lift Wellesley to 8-5 overall. Newbury now stands at 7-11 overall, while Smith sports a 5-5 overall mark.
In the opener, Wellesley cruised to a three-set victory over Newbury. After matching 25-9 set wins to open play, the Blue closed out the match with a 25-20 victory in set three to earn the win. Jessica Mullen led the Blue at the net, with eight kills on 10 attempts to go with two assists. Kellyn O'Brady added six kills while Megan Mills and Sydney Carfagno chipped in two each. Hillary Ayers recorded 30 assists and five aces in the win.
Playing in the bronze bracket final against Smith, the Blue took the three set match by scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-8. Amanda Duritsch and Caitlin Laughlin led the Blue with 10 kills a piece. Carfagno added eight kills and three blocks. Isabel Custodio tallied 30 assists.
The Blue are back in action on Tuesday at 7:00pm hosting NEWMAC opponent, Mount Holyoke.
