Box Score 2 BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Wellesley College volleyball team opened the 2012 Seven Sisters Tournament with matching 3-0 wins over Bryn Mawr and Mount Holyoke on Saturday at Bryn Mawr's Bern Schwartz Fitness and Athletic Center. The Blue topped the hosts with set scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-9, while dispatching the Lyons with scores of 25-6, 25-17, and 25-19.
The wins lift Wellesley's season mark to 19-1.
Against Bryn Mawr, Wellesley used solid hitting to sweep the Owls. The Blue recorded just nine errors in three sets of action, including hitting .500 with just one error in a 25-9 rout in set three.
Individually, Wellesley was paced by Isabel Custodio who recorded nine kills and 12 assists, while Sydney Carfagno picked up seven kills and five aces. Hilary Ayers dished out a team-high 16 assists, while Caitlin Laughlin added three blocks. Rounding out the stat leaders in game one, Vivian Hu and Kellyn O'Brady combined for 17 digs in the victory.
In their second match of the day, Wellesley used another solid hitting performance to sweep Mount Holyoke. First-year Courtney Lang led the Blue with 10 kills, hitting at a .500 clip. Custodio recorded eight kills and 15 assists, while Ayers added 18 assists. Wrapping up the box score, Hu tallied 10 digs in the win.
After one day of action, Wellesley and Vassar are both undefeated, while Smith stands in third place with a 1-1 record. Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr both went winless in Saturday action.
The Seven Sisters Tournament continues tomorrow with Wellesley playing two matches. The Blue open the day at 9:00am facing Smith College and then wrap up the tournament with an 11:30 match against Vassar.
