Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – Visiting Wellesley College got back to its winning ways, with a 3-0 victory over Clark University in NEWMAC volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

Wellesley recorded just six errors in the three sets of action. As a team, the Blue hit .382, while outblocking the Cougars, 9-2, and tallying 11 total service aces.

Wellesley opened up the first set with a 10-4 spurt highlighted by a trio of kills from Courtney Lang. That lead grew to 14-7 following a monstrous left-handed kill by Caitlin Laughlin and the Blue's advantage ballooned to as much as 18-8 before they settled on a 25-13 win.

Clark took very early leads in game two but Wellesley clawed back and took a 9-5 lead that jumped to 15-10. The teams traded points up until a 20-15 edge for the Blue and they then ran off five of the next seven to take the game.

Game three proved to be more of the same for Wellesley. With the score tied 4-4, they went on a ten-point run that saw their lead pushed to 14-4. Clark never got closer than ten points the rest of the way as the Blue collected the 25-12 win.

Lang finished with a match-high 13 kills on a sizzling .667 hitting percentage, while Hilary Ayers and Isabel Custodio combined for 27 assists.

The Cougars were paced by Shannon Glass-Smythe whose five kills put her over 200 for the season and Rachel Spera who recorded match-highs of 16 assists and eight digs.

Clark returns to action on Saturday when they take part in a tri-match that features host Becker College and Daniel Webster.

Wellesley hits the hardwood again on Saturday as well when they travel to Bowdoin for a tri-match that includes NEWMAC foe Coast Guard.
