Fencing Competes at Northeast Conference Meet #1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Wellesley College fencing team competed at the first Northeast Fencing Conference Meet of the season on Saturday at MIT. The Blue competed against six schools, picking up a win over the University of New Hampshire.

Wellesley opened with a 25-2 loss to a tough Sacred Heart team in the first round of action. The Blue then fell to MIT, 21-6, narrowly falling in the foil competition, with a 5-4 loss. In round three, Wellesley suffered a tight 15-12 loss against UMass, picking up a 5-4 win in epee, and just missing a win in foil (5-4).

The final three rounds opened with Wellesley dropping a 23-4 bout to Brown, then a 21-6 loss to Brandeis. Against Brown, the epee squad recorded three victories, while against Brandeis, epee and foil each posted three wins.

Wrapping up the competition, Wellesley posted a 14-13 win over UNH. The Blue won both epee and foil, 5-4, and narrowly felly in sabre, 5-4, but it was enough for a Wellesley victory.

Individually, Wellesley was led by first-year Charlotte Treadwell and sophomore Kathryn Ledbetter in epee. Treadwell picked up 11 wins on the day, while Ledbetter recorded nine victories. In foil, senior Elise Dong led the way with six wins, while in sabre, junior Dania Wright also recorded six wins. 

The Wellesley fencing team on January 23rd, traveling to Brandeis University for a 7:00pm dual bout against the Judges.
