Box Score 2 BEVERLY, Mass. – Wellesley volleyball stretched its unbeaten streak to 13 matches with two more wins on day two of the round-robin MIT Invitational, held on Saturday at Endicott College. The Blue swept Newbury College in the opener and followed with a 3-1 win over Roger Williams. Wellesley now stands at 13-0 on the season.
In the 3-0 victory over Newbury (25-23, 25-17, 25-11), the Blue dominated the net, hitting .378 as a team. Jessica Mullen led the attack with 10 kills, while Caitlin Laughlin added eight and Kellyn O'Brady chipped in seven. Mikey Jackson-Smith and Courtney Lang recorded four kills each, and Kira Jordan added three kills and two blocks.
Vivian Hu anchored the backcourt for the Blue with 14 digs, while Isabel Custodio dished out 29 assists in the win.
Wellesley finished the tournament with a hard-fought win over Roger Williams University (25-20, 25-22, 24-26, 25-23). Sydney Carfagno was a point-scoring machine against the Hawks, racking up 19 kills, seven blocks, and two aces in the four-set win. The Blue also received solid performances from Custodio (nine kills, 24 assists, and three blocks), Mullen (six kills and three blocks), Traci Hamanaka (20 digs), and Hu (12 digs and an ace).
Rounding out the stats for the Blue in match two, O'Brady hammered six kills and picked up five digs, Laughlin recorded four kills and five blocks, and Jordan tallied a career-high seven stuffs in the win.
The Blue return to action on Wednesday, September 26, when they travel to WPI for a 7:30pm match-up.
UPDATE: Carfagno, who hit .342 on 52 kills this weekend, earned all tournament honors. The sophomore outside hitter also recorded 37 digs, 13 blocks, and five aces in 13 games.
