WORCESTER, Mass. -- Sydney Carfagno totaled 17 kills and 19 digs to lead Wellesley to a 3-1 win over host WPI on Wednesday evening in NEWMAC women's volleyball action. All four sets were hotly contested, with scores of 25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23. 

The Blue, who are ranked first in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association poll, remain undefeated at 14-0 with a 4-0 record in the NEWMAC while the Engineers drop to 9-5 with a 1-3 mark in the conference standings.

Kellyn O'Brady added 13 kills and 12 digs. Isabel Custodio and Hilary Ayers each had 19 assists, with Custudio collecting 14 digs and Ayers finishing with 12. Custudio added three block assists.  Vivian Hu led the defensive effort with 26 digs and Jessica Mullen added five kills.

Belinda Nwagbara led WPI with 12 kills and three block assists and Alex Rangel racked up 30 assists and 12 digs. Kerrin Beovich  contributed nine kills and four digs, while Elyssa Dorenfeld added five kills and 11 digs. Holly Ganser finished with a match-high four block assists and Lauren D' Angelo had a team-high 23 digs.

The Engineers held a 21-19 lead in the first set before the Blue took control, closing out the set with six straight points, the last four coming off Carfagno's serve. Facing a 2-0 set deficit entering the third set, the Engineers rallied to win the point, 25-23. The decisive fourth set saw the Crimson and Gray constantly battle back before Wellesley's Kira Jordan finally put the game away with a kill off a set from Custodio. 

WPI plays next on Saturday when they host Bridgewater State in an 11am contest. Wellesley hosts UMass Boston on Friday at 7pm.
