Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Wellesley College volleyball team made it three in a row to open the 2012 season, as the Blue swept Brandeis, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at Auerbach Arena. Wellesley's season mark stands at 3-0, while Brandeis suffers its first loss, dipping to 3-1.
Wellesley came out on top of three somewhat close sets, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20. All three stayed tight until around the 17-point mark, when the Blue began to pull away, including closing set two on an 8-2 run.
Kellyn O'Brady recorded 10 kills, while also posting seven digs, to lead Wellesley's offense. Sydney Carfagno notched a seven-kill performance, while Jessica Mullen and Isabel Custodio each added six kills. Rounding out the offense, Hilary Ayers dished out 18 assists, while Custodio picked up 12.
Also for the Blue, Carfagno and Traci Hamanaka each posted 11 digs. O'Brady, Megan Mills, and Caitlin Laughlin all recorded two blocks, while Vivian Hu notched a team-high four service aces.
Wellesley returns to Brandeis this weekend, playing at the Brandeis Invitational. Action begins Friday night with Wellesley taking on Rhode Island College at 7:00pm. On Saturday, Wellesley will square off against Tufts and Emmanuel.
